An Unstylish Celebration

I usually love shopping, but ordering a graduation gown is a tad different. Of course, it is wonderful since it means that graduation is in sight. On the other hand, it is perhaps the most hideous item of clothing ever. Calling the gowns “clothing” is a tad generous; a better description would be “tent.”

One of my friends obsessively worked out to lose weight for graduation. This made absolutely no sense to me. I could hide another person under my graduation gown and no one would be the wiser. Who cares about a measly five pounds?

When I ordered my gown the sizes are calculated by two measurements, first heights with shoes on, and second, weight. The second category is so broad that we should all indulge in that piece of cake! (Or perhaps second piece of cake…) I fit into the oh-so-skinny “Under 200 Pounds” category. At my height someone who is 200 pounds is considered obese. No wonder the gowns end up looking like someone threw a bed sheet on you. What a way to celebrate an accomplishment such as graduation.

I will just have to settle for a cute sundress under my school-required tent. At least I will be pretty under the voluminous yards of fabric and cap-induced hat hair…

Clothes V. Boys

It is no big secret that a lot of ladies love clothes. But just how deep is their adoration?

A new study out confirms every guy’s worst nightmare: girls may like their clothes more than you.

Some findings included…

-The average woman surveyed would forgo sex for 15 months in order to receive a brand new wardrobe of clothes. (Ouch!)

-About half of the women said that an article of clothing was better at making them feel sexy than their guy. (I can understand this one. I instantly feel better when I am wearing a flattering outfit.)

-Apparently, a full 70 percent of the participants thought that love at first sight with clothing was real. Only about half thought the same for falling in love with a man. (I get this one too; clothes do not really have anything to hide. No pair of shoes has a crazy mother waiting in the wings!)

I suppose the guys of the world had better step it up… before clothes take over. Haha!

Naked the New Black?

So congrats to the Pundits at Yale. I have to admit that I am a bit jealous. I have thrown some decent parties, none of which graced the pages of the New York Times. Now I know the key ingredient: nakedness. Not nakedness in the frat party sense (let's get girls to strip!), but being naked to just "be."

Maybe I am just not deep enough to appreciate this type of event. Do you know how I feel when I am naked? Cold. And no, I do not feel repressed by society when I am clothed.

I can actually think of a whole list of reasons I like clothes:
1. As stated before, for warmth. If I move to a tropical island, maybe I will reconsider.
2. My outfits reflect my personality and outlook on life.
3. High quality materials (cashmere, silk, etc) feel wonderful on your skin.
4. I can make myself look better in clothes. This does not apply to sweatshirts! However, careful picked clothes will highlight your assets.
5. No offense, but I just do not want to see the vast majority of people naked. Sorry.

I could go on but I do not want to bore anyone. So if anyone wants to have a entertaining time featuring clothes, feel free to give me a ring!
