JT Should Look into Bringing Brooks Brothers Back Too

Today the NYT's has a lovely article about shopping at the flagship Brooks Brothers store. I just love their clothes for guys. It must run in the family. I have hazy childhood memories of my Grandfather looking dapper in their suits, ties, and shirts. Some of those same ties where even passed down to other family members. I believe the biggest fight was over a tie with Harvard crests. (By fight, I mean a low key discussion. It's a WASP thing.) I cannot believe people cared that much! Guys and ties, it is a strange bond.

Back to the point, it makes me happy that some guys my age have learned the value of Brooks Brothers (and other assorted nice establishments). Don't guys get that girls love it when they dress up? (It must be so easy to be a guy.) I am glad the bf has this lesson down. Now I will just spend the rest of Thursday classes picturing him in one of his B.B. button downs. Thank you for the daily distraction New York Times.

Save the Style Section!

This is a few days old but it still haunts me. On Sunday morning, I woke up and went downstairs for some quality newspaper reading. Then the NYT shook me out of my blissful morning routine with an article entitled "The Graying of Naughty."

The Style Section has come to this? What about old people and porn is stylish? And the descriptions are not even sexy:

“I love sex,” she explained, biting into a Burger King special before embarking on her scene for the day at a rented house in the San Fernando Valley. She was wearing a bright pink satin and black chiffon nightie with a matching thong and heavy makeup.

Ohhh, heavy makeup and fast food, that is so hot. It is like that burger commercial with Paris Hilton... expect aged. So New York Times, the next time you try to convince me that porn is worth my reading at least put it somewhere other than the Style Section.

I know there are a lot of scandalous girls out there, but acting like that is not classy or stylish. Porn is not fashionable. Case closed!

Why I Want a Lab

The NYT's Style Section has uncovered a trend: those little dogs are EVERYWHERE! Nice detective work guys. Anyway, the premise is that all those little, yippy dogs are just accessories:

"Flaunted as fashion statements, pint-sized canines are, to some minds, the fur-bearing equivalent of a pair of Louboutin pumps or other accessory. “I think of them as a handbag with a heartbeat,” said Robin Bowden, a vice president of Prudential Douglas Elliman, a real estate company in Manhattan. Ms. Bowden’s office on West 17th Street is a kind of home-away-from-home to a clutch of lavishly outfitted lap dogs belonging to various employees. “They have little beds and they scamper up and down,” she said. “I’ve seen brokers showing expensive SoHo lofts, turning up with these tiny puppy dogs in their designer bags.” "

It just seems so wrong. A "hangbag with a heartbeat"? A dog isn't an accessory, it is a friend.

But then again, when I get a puppy, I will plan on having him for a long, long time... Not just until the next best accessory comes along.

What Not to Put in Your Announcement

There are a few things one typically puts in a wedding announcement like where the ceremony is or the bride and groom's college. Putting in an adorable story usually helps as well.

In this Sunday's NYT weddings section, one couple took a different tactic: medical trauma. Literally half the announcement detailed a heart attack the groom had suffered.

" “I had no warning at all,” said Mr. Moore, an active athlete who has no memory of the event. One moment he was working late on a big business merger that King & Spalding was handling, and then “someone in the next room heard a chair fall and rushed in and saw me on the floor passed out.”
Fortunately, another lawyer who was working on the deal knew CPR, which saved Mr. Moore’s life. He was still unconscious when he arrived at the hospital, where doctors performed cardiac surgery, implanting an internal cardiac defibrillator in his body."

Seriously? Well at least they managed to slip in the firm he worked for and it's always nice to know that M&A lawyers know CPR. But that was not the end of the detailed account:

"Mr. Moore still takes beta blockers daily to regulate his heartbeat, but otherwise he has physically recovered."

His medication is that really pertinent to the story of their engagement or wedding? This event must have been the defining moment of the relationship. Wrong. The announcement goes on:

"And while the couple consider his health scare a significant life event, they say it was not a life-changing one."

Oh, not life-changing. Then why was it included? Didn't this guy do anything "aw" inducing during your courtship? It is obvious the NYT was not impressed either, these two did not even get their picture included.

These Princeton alums really need to spice things up. Here's an idea: take her on a nice trip and remember to take your beta-blockers. We don't want your first romantic encounter to be your last.

NYT Exposes the Cruel Conditions Cornell Girls Endure

It's October, the month of scary ghost, vampires, and revealing costumes. Every girl worth her salt remembers the Halloween party scene in Mean Girls:

Now in a stunning piece of investigative journalism, the New York Times discovers that this trend may not be all that is cracked up to be. In fact, the paper discovered that at Cornell University:
"“Almost everybody gets dressed up really, really sexy for it," said Carrie Jean Bodner, a senior at Cornell University in Ithaca who wrote about the abundance of skimpy Halloween garb for The Cornell Daily Sun last year. "Even the girls who wouldn'’t dream of going to class without their pearls and pullovers."
Yes, in an ironic twist of fate, proud, intelligent Ivy League women are forced to wear these outfits. I fear for my pearls.

But there is more... the NYT also found that, in addition, co-eds are then told by society to risk their lives just to fit in:
" Ms. Bodner of Cornell estimated that it will be about 30 degrees in Ithaca on Oct. 31. "“We'’re not just risking our dignity here," she said. "We'’re risking frostbite.”"
I want to thank the New York Times for exposing this dangerous trend to the public. I only hope that the next generation of girls will trade in their fishnets for a "funny nerd" costume. Go ahead, eat that extra piece of candy and let your spakling wit be your sex appeal!

In the mean time, I'll keep my sexy Red Riding Hood costume because it's too late brainwashed lady like me. Oh, and we wear pink on Wednesdays, loser.
