Live and Learn

It is easy to go through life without any real feedback. Too often constructive criticism is stymied by a mandate for diplomacy and tact in everyday conversation. Nevertheless, it is actually refreshing to be the focus of brutally honest analysis once in a while. So I would like to thank Ivy Gate for taking the time to evaluate my little blog.

The reviewer is correct; I am not looking to boast about my education or somehow give profound philosophical meaning to fashion. Most of all I do not take myself too seriously… an affliction from which some of my peers suffer.

So in the words of Erica Jong: "No one ever found wisdom without also being a fool. Writers, alas, have to be fools in public, while the rest of the human race can cover its tracks."

Thanks to every person who indulges my foolishness.

Speaking of constructive criticism free of the burden of diplomacy, I'd like to anonymously remind you that the word you probably intended to use in that sentence is spelled "tact," not "tack." Also, that you are a whore.

Nice catch, while on all these cold meds I need all the help I can get.

The whore part is uncalled for though.

Hey, some people just don't yet understand the value of first impressions. I like your blog. :-)

Hi - I like your blog and think its cute. I also have a pretty good inkling when you're joking and when you're not - too bad that reviewer doesnt, but oh well. I wish people would think a little more before they trash a blog - its a hobby, and shouldn't be taken so seriously! Spelling errors?? C'mon!
Anyway, I stop by a few times a week at least, and I find a lot of your musings cute and funny.

re: Reviewers not knowing when someone is joking and taking things too seriously.

Dear Jocelyn,
Please read IvyGate.

I think your blog is great...don't listen to the reviewer. The only reason he notices problems is because he (or she) is obviously looking for them. I enjoy your blog, don't stop for anything! Besides, what's the fun in blogging if you have to be "perfect" in everything you put out onto the screen??

The fact that you scoffed at actually living in Boston in an earlier post is pretty funny, where is your school again? Oh yea.... some bumfuck town in New York. Go to Boston and learn about real fashion sweetie.

I pretty sure I was complaining about being in Ithaca and said I would rather be in Boston in that post.

Heavens, I love the people who have so much to say provided they can hide behind the Anonymous moniker. And I want to thank the Anon poster above me for giving me the best laugh of my day with the assertion that Boston is the home of "real fashion."
Keep your head up Ivy League Chic. Your blog is delightful.

I agree that the whore part is completely unnecessary. I also think it's funny that Boston-lover totally missed the point of that post.

I have very little interest in fashion, and when I was a student up on that damn hill, I was one of the untrendy ones who kicked around in Salvation Army jeans and my boyfriend's tee-shirt. Still, I like your blog (even though I can't understand why anyone would spend thousands on a dress!).

agreed regarding the rediculous prices...so many more practical things that i must spend my pittance of a govt salary on every month...but that's not to say it's not fun to splurge on a BCBG number every so often...all in moderation...just like good style! for the rich, there's haute, for the rest of us, there's the sale rack!

I love your blog! I linked from IvyGate and I practically read the whole thing instead of doing an Orgo problem set. Keep up the good work - your blog is funny and interesting to read (although it was probably a good idea to delete the sheep post). I want to see more of your reviews of Ithaca restaurants, bars, etc. please!!

I have to say...I thought I'd find something different when I clicked on this link from ivygate, but I am pleasantly suprised. In fact, I love it.
It's nice to know that one of my peers agrees that we shouldn't take outselve too seriously because of where we go to school..
I love it..I think I'll add a link to my blog. Good stuff...Keep it up..I need more to read during international taxation or something. :)
